The Department of Biological Sciences at the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences, Iyin-Ekiti, is committed to advancing the scientific understanding of life and the environment through teaching, research, and innovation. The Department integrates classical and modern approaches to the study of living organisms, their structure, function, evolution, and interactions with the environment. It provides a strong foundation for addressing global challenges such as biodiversity loss, food insecurity, environmental degradation, disease control, and sustainable resource management.
The Department offers diverse academic programmes in Microbiology, Plant Science (Botany), and Animal and Environmental Biology (Zoology), all designed to train graduates who are intellectually sound, technically skilled, and ethically grounded. Students engage in rigorous coursework, laboratory practices, field studies, and research projects that develop scientific reasoning, analytical competence, and problem-solving skills essential for global scientific and environmental leadership.
The philosophy of the Department of Biological Sciences is founded on the belief that biology is central to understanding life and sustaining ecosystems. The Department seeks to produce graduates with a broad and integrated knowledge of biological systems who can apply scientific principles to solve real-world problems in health, agriculture, conservation, and biotechnology. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking, empirical observation, and innovation in the pursuit of sustainable development.
